In this blog post, I am going to tell you my experiences with Wikipedia, which I made in the last three months due to my participation in the university course “Constructing Knowledge in the Digital Age: Wikipedia´s Contribution to the Humanities”.
It was the time to choose a new course for the winter term 2014-2015. Among different courses I noticed a “Constructing Knowledge in the Digital Age: Wikipedia’s Contribution to the Humanities”. It sounded really interesting because until this time I was only a passive contributor of Wikipedia. In my opinion Wikipedia is one of the best resources where you can find an overview about almost everything.
To find out about the differences of German and English articles in general, I picked one topic, which exists in both languages, and compared those two. In some cases, the articles of the English Wikipedia are translated into other languages because the English Wikipedia is the original and the most used Wikipedia in the world. But sometimes there are different articles about the same theme in two different languages. I have therefore chosen the subject of psycholinguistics for my studies.
